Viewlands Bike Bus and Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Events
Building healthy habits, confidence, and community connection
At Viewlands Elementary, we believe in the power of community and “every child known”. Through the Viewlands weekly Bike Bus and twice annual Walk, Bike, & Roll to School events, we partner with families, neighbors, and the Seattle Public Schools Safe Routes to School program to give students fun, safe, and active ways to get to school. We want to help students create healthy habits, build confidence, and strengthen our school community.
Viewlands Bike Bus
The Viewlands Bike Bus (Orca Bike Pod) is a group ride to school that happens every Wednesday morning during the school year. Students ride together with volunteers leading at the front, middle, and back to ensure safety and support along the way. Parents are welcome to join, too!
Join the north or south route to school:
- North Route: Departs from Fremont Ave N / N 100th St at 7:35am (arrive by 7:30am)
- South Route: Departs from 2nd Ave NW / NW 92nd St at Sandel Park at 7:35am (arrive by 7:30am)
- We ride rain or shine every week, unless otherwise noted in our Konstella bike bus group.
Need gear? We can provide helmets, reflective bands, bells, and gloves for students who need them.

Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Days
Twice each year, in October and May, Viewlands joins schools across the country for National Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day. These are big community celebrations where students walk, bike, roll, or even carpool and bus to school together.
On event mornings, we celebrate with:
- Walking and biking groups from multiple starting points *
- A celebration table at school with snacks and posters to sign
- Free gear giveaways (helmets, lights, reflective bands, and more) provided by Seattle DOT’s Safe Routes to School program
- Snacks from local sponsors
*Note, the walk, roll, and bike groups arrive at starting locations by 7:10am on WBR event days to allow time for celebration at school.
Event details and volunteer information will be available in Konstella.
Volunteer with us!
Parent and community volunteers are part of what makes weekly bike bus and our WBR to school day events possible.
All volunteers that want to support the weekly bike bus need to complete the Seattle Public Schools volunteer approval process. This can take several weeks. Until then, volunteers can support in a supervised capacity.
For bi-annual WBR to school day events, a Konstella signup form will be available to select a role to support from 7am-8am.
Crossing guards are needed at key intersections before and after school. This is a paid position through SPS. Learn more >

- Community: Families, neighbors, and friends connect along the way, building stronger ties to the school community.
- Environmental Impact: Active transportation reduces traffic congestion around the school, creating a cleaner (and safer) environment.
